WHEN WILL L.A. REYNOLDS' ROSES BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE?

Saturday, March 14th, weather conditions permitting. Give us a call at (336) 945-3776, if weather conditions seem questionable.

CAN YOU HOLD OR RESERVE A ROSE BUSH FOR ME?

We cannot hold or reserve roses. However, if you would like to make a purchase over the phone, using your credit card, our nursery staff will select the rose bush for you. Please be prepared to pick up your purchase as soon as possible (within a few days).

WHY SHOULD I BUY MY ROSES FROM L.A. REYNOLDS? THE MAILORDER ROSE CATALOGS AND HOME IMPROVEMENT STORES OFFER SOME OF THE SAME VARIETIES...

Roses purchased from these sources are usually 'bare-root'. You get the bush THEY choose for you, or the box hides the rosebush. Extra care must be taken when planting a bare-root rose; you won't even know if the bush is healthy until well into the growing season. Our roses arrive at L.A. Reynolds in January. They are hand-potted, fertilized, and pruned properly. Our roses get a head start on their spring growth right here in our greenhouses, where they are lovingly cared for until YOU choose your rose bush and take it home. DOES L.A. REYNOLDS SELL BARE ROOT ROSES?

No. Potting and raising the rose bushes in our greenhouses provides our customers a healthy, pruned and thriving specimen that will be an immediate asset to their garden from the beginning of the growing season.

WHEN CAN I PLANT MY NEW ROSES?

We recommend waiting until after the last frost date for your area. In Winston-Salem, that will be after the first week in April. If you live outside of Winston-Salem, please make the appropriate adjustments. Our roses have enjoyed the protection of our greenhouses and cannot tolerate freezing cold March nights, ice storms, etc. Bring them in to a protected area, such as a garage or covered porch, during such weather. Your roses will harden off (adjust to outside temps) and continue to grow during this time, so don't forget to water!

ARE YOUR ROSE BUSHES GUARANTEED?

Roses are guaranteed to be the variety stated on the hang tag and/or bar-coded price tag. Roses are not included in our tree and shrub guarantee.

YOU HAVE SOLD OUT OF THE ROSE BUSH I HAD MY HEART SET ON... WILL YOU GET MORE IN? CAN YOU ORDER ANOTHER ONE FOR ME?

We order our roses 8 months in advance of delivery. Our order is for both variety and quantity. Once we sell out of a particular variety, no more are available to us until the following year. Each and every year, certain varieties sell out before May. If you must have rose bush XYZ, please do not wait too long to make your purchase -- don't be disappointed!

I REALLY WANT A ROSE THAT YOU DID NOT CARRY THIS YEAR...

Each spring I keep a "wish list" of requests. If the variety you request is available to us, I will make every effort to include that variety in our rose order for next year. Please, just ask! (Or recommend your favorite!)

I REALLY WANT TO START A ROSE GARDEN, BUT I'VE HEARD THEY ARE TOO HARD TO GROW. IS THIS TRUE? WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET STARTED?

While it is true that Hybrid Tea roses (the type of rose most popular for cutting) require a bit more care than other varieties, your time and effort will be greatly rewarded! An hour or so per week spent on regular maintenance (pruning/cutting/deadheading, spraying and weeding) keeps your roses looking their best and gives you 6 months of blooms. Our nursery staff can help you choose the products best suited to your individual garden's needs, be they chemical, organic, or a combination of the two. In planning your rose garden, keep these few tips in mind: First, decide placement of your rose garden. You will need at least 6 - 8 hours of full sun. Early morning sun is best (a southeast exposure). Second, measure the area. This will help determine the number of roses your area can support. Spacing of individual plants depends on the width of that particular variety. You will need access to the rose bush from all angles. Your greatest challenge will be narrowing down your choices - all the roses are so beautiful! It may help you to think about the primary purpose of your garden... color for your landscape? Blooms to cut and bring inside? Is fragrance important to you? We are always happy to take the time to help you with these difficult decisions, because L.A.
